U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday revoked a 2023 executive order signed by Joe Biden that sought to reduce the risks that artificial intelligence poses to consumers, workers and national security.

Among Trump’s first actions was revoking nearly 80 executive orders signed by his predecessor. On the revocation list was an order signed by Biden in October 2023 that sought to limit artificial intelligence’s risks to consumers and national security.

Trump didn’t immediately explain why he cancelled the AI safety order. However, in a press release that listed it among others that he had rescinded, Trump collectively described them as part of the “deeply unpopular, inflationary, illegal, and radical practices” the previous administration had instilled within the federal government.
