MSCI's global equities index was barely higher on Friday while Wall Street trading was choppy and the dollar lost ground as a U.S. trade deal with Britain fueled guarded optimism for U.S. tariff negotiations with China and other countries.

U.S. and Chinese officials are set to meet in Switzerland to discuss potentially de-escalating the trade spat that has resulted in high tariffs for each country.

Shares are mixed in Asia as investors pin their hopes on weekend trade talks between China and the U.S. U.S. futures and oil prices logged modest gains
