One of President Trump’s first actions as he returned to office Monday targeted a hot-button issue that has been central in many school board debates across the Philadelphia region in recent years: gender identity.

The executive order conflicts with laws in California and other blue states that forbid discrimination based on gender identity. The courts are expected to take up the issue.

Trump signed an executive order to declare there are only two recognizable sexes -- male and female. LGBTQ+ advocates say this will harm many in the community.
