Charlotte-based Honeywell has announced it will be splitting into three companies — one focused on advanced materials production, another on industrial and building automation, and another on the aerospace industry.

Honeywell, one of the last remaining U.S. industrial conglomerates, will split into three independent companies, following in the footsteps of manufacturing giants like General Electric and Alcoa. The company said Thursday that it will separate from its automation and aerospace technologies businesses.

Honeywell Aerospace will become a separate company with its headquarters still in Phoenix, officials confirmed after details of its parent company's breakup were announced Thursday morning.

Honeywell is separating into three publicly traded companies, the Charlotte-based conglomerate said Thursday. Only one will stay in Charlotte. Honeywell will spin off its automation and aerospace tech businesses. The separations are expected to be completed by the second half of 2026, Honeywell said.

The once leading Minnesota corporation, now based in North Carolina, has been pressured by shareholders to split up.
