The Kentucky Department of Health has confirmed that a person has died after contracting rabies in Northern Kentucky. Officials say how the person contracted rabies is unknown at the time, however it is possible they contacted it outside the U.

Kentucky health officials announced in a press release that the Northern Kentucky resident may have been exposed to the virus outside of the U.S., but the source is still unidentified.

The Kentucky Department for Public Health reports that a northern Kentucky resident died from rabies on Friday.
