A Mega Millions ticket sold in New Jersey won $1 million and narrowly missed the $47 million jackpot, lottery officials say. The ticket matched all five winning numbers but not the Mega Ball in the drawing Friday, Sept. 20, the national Mega Millions site said.

A lucky lottery player somewhere in New Jersey is $1 million richer today after buying a Mega Millions ticket for Friday night’s drawing that matched five of the winning numbers.

Tickets sold in New Jersey and California won second-tier prizes Friday, while the jackpot will hit $62 million for Tuesday's drawing.

You can win $2 for the matching just one - the Mega Ball. Short of the jackpot, you can win up to $1 million for matching all five white balls (except in California). You can check all the prize payouts on the Mega Millions site here.

A Texas player won the $810 million Mega Millions jackpot Tuesday night, but there's an even bigger prize sitting unclaimed.

Nine lottery players in New Jersey won $10,000 or more last week playing Powerball, Mega Millions and New Jersey Lottery games.

Only two other Mega Millions jackpots have been won this year. Before the Illinois winning ticket, a $1.1 billion winning ticket was purchased in New Jersey in March. That prize is still unclaimed. Winners in New Jersey have one year to claim their winnings.

The biggest winner was Hyo Suk Jang, who won a whopping $20 million after hitting the SuperLotto Plus jackpot from with a ticket purchased in Los Angeles.
