High fire danger impacting millions of people across New York and New Jersey is forecast to last through the weekend, as the region remains bone-dry with little to no rain on the horizon.

Due to unprecedented dry weather and higher temperatures that are fueling wildfires, Gov. Phil Murphy announced a Drought Warning Advisory.

About an hour after it concluded, the department announced a press briefing for Wednesday “to discuss the state entering Drought Warning status as prolonged dry periods continue statewide.” The New Jersey Forest Fire Service says conditions in the state are the driest they have been in nearly 120 years.

New Jersey has declared a drought warning as dry conditions continue, asking residents to conserve water voluntarily.

The Jennings Creek fire is currently burning across 3,500 acres, officials said, and is expected to grow to over 5,000 acres.

Fire Weather Warnings were issued for the NYC area on Tuesday, as gusty winds and dry fuel could lead to rapid fire spreading throughout the rest of the week. FOX 5 NY's Richard Giacovis has the latest.
