A veteran New York City sanitation worker died on the job on Saturday after being run over by his own truck, according to a recent report by Gothamist. Richard Errico, 54, was riding his route in Queens when, around 5:43 p.m., he attempted to turn the truck around at a city Department of Sanitation garage near Douglaston, according to the report.

It was not clear on Sunday what caused Errico — who worked for the sanitation department for 19 years — to fall out of the truck.

Richard Errico, a 19-year veteran of the department, appears to have been killed outside of the DSNY garage for District’s 11 and 13 in Douglaston, according to grisly photos from the scene.

The worker was operating a sanitation truck at the yard on Douglaston Parkway near Grand Central Parkway, when he fell out around 5:43 p.m., according to police sources.
