Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland are braced for a storm spiraling in from the Atlantic, bringing gusts of up to 100 m.p.h., with forecasters warning of a danger to life.

A weather warning for high winds has been upgraded from yellow to amber for most of Scotland on Friday. Gusts of up to 90mph are expected during the first named storm of 2025. Storm Eowyn - pronounced "ay-oh-win" - is expected to bring widespread disruption and could cause a danger to life as a result of flying debris,

A wind speed of 114mph brought by Storm Éowyn has been recorded in Ireland, the fastest since records began, forecaster Met Eireann said. Flights have been delayed, roads closed and ferry services cancelled as strong winds pose a danger to life in parts of the UK on Friday morning.
