BALSAM, N.C. (WVLT) - For the last 20 years, Ann Houghton had been routinely hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and spent time as a volunteer. Houghton, originally from Florida, moved to Balsam, North Carolina with the main goal of being close to the Smoky Mountains.

Ann Houghton, 73, was discovered just before 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, “roughly a quarter mile off of Enloe Creek Trail,” the National Park Service said in a news release. A cause of death has not been released.
