Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley said Monday he was surprised to learn he had been named to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition because he had turned down the opportunity earlier this year.

In April, Barkley drew criticism from fans for golfing with Trump and then joining the president for a helicopter flight before the championship-winning Eagles’ official White House visit. The running back clapped back at critics on social media, noting that he also golfed with former President Barack Obama several months prior.

August 3 - Philadelphia Eagles standout wide receiver A.J. Brown did not practice Sunday due to a hamstring injury. He left practice early Friday because of the issue. There was no timetable provided for his return.

The Eagles got DeVonta Smith back on the practice field after he missed time with a back injury, but they have another injury issue to work through at wide receiver.

For the first time in his career, Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo will be calling plays Thursday night, when the Birds host the Cincinnati Bengals in their preseason opener.
