Muhammad Yunus, has acknowledged the presence of a “design and conspiracy” behind the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

While addressing the recent annual meet, Yunus shed light on the recent mass protest in Bangladesh against the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said that it is not known that who was the key conspirator behind the protests but he did state Mahfuj Abdullah and said he played a key role in the ouster of Hasina from power.

If she had committed a crime, she should be brought back and face trial,” said Yunus during an event in New York on Wednesday

The interim head of the Bangladesh government called Mahfuz Abdullah and two other student leaders on the stage and lauded them for sparking a revolution that "shook the entire country".

Speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative, Dr Muhammad Yunus introduced and praised the young leaders who drove the student-led movement that led to Sheikh Hasina's ouster.
