Ron DeSantis, Florida’s governor, has announced plans for a second new migrant detention centre for his state nicknamed “deportation depot” following the opening of “Alligator Alcatraz”.

The DeSantis administration is making arrangements to hold immigrant detainees at a North Florida prison as a federal judge weighs whether to temporarily shut down Alligator Alcatraz, the makeshift immigration detention camp in the Everglades.

Just weeks after opening Alligator Alcatraz, Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled plans for a second migrant detention center to
