Delhi’s new Chief Minister Atishi faced criticism from BJP and Congress for not using her predecessor's chair, labeling it an insult to constitutional rules. Comparing herself to Ramayana's Bharat, Atishi pledged to temporarily serve with dignity.

Indian opposition leader Arvind Kejriwal picked Delhi minister Atishi to replace him as chief minister of the capital territory on Tuesday, allowing him to focus on winning a fresh mandate in elections due next year after getting bail in a graft case.

ABP News reports that Atishi has officially assumed the role of Chief Minister of Delhi on Monday, September 23. Upon arriving at the secretariat, she noticed two chairs placed in her office, one of which was notably larger and empty.

Gopal Rai has taken charge as Delhi's new Environment Minister, vowing to continue initiatives led by Arvind Kejriwal. Atishi has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister. Kejriwal stepped down amidst corruption allegations but expressed intentions to return if he wins the next election in February 2025.

The Kalkaji MLA's name was proposed by Kejriwal, who tendered his resignation as Chief Minister, for the top post.

Delhi's new chief minister Atishi, who took office on Saturday, is likely to assume charge on Monday. She retains her previous 13 portfolios from the Kejriwal government. The Delhi Assembly session will occur on September 26 and 27.
