The Diamondbacks on Monday confirmed the signing of veteran catcher James McCann, a move made to help their catching depth after starter Gabriel Moreno was placed on the IL with a hairline fracture in his right hand.

Arizona signed James McCann to a major league contract following his release from the Atlanta Braves, and the 35-year-old catcher joined the Diamondbacks on Monday for their game against the Chicago White Sox.

June 23 (UPI) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks signed veteran catcher James McCann, the team announced Monday. McCann, who was released Sunday by the Atlanta Braves, appeared in 42 minor league games this season. He hit .305 with six home runs and 32 RBIs.
