Surrey County Council has been gritting roads in preparation for possible snowfall after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice over the weekend. The alert begins at 12:00 GMT on 4 January and lasts until 23:59 on 5 January.

A Met Office yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for the north and west of Scotland as temperatures drop across the country. A yellow warning for snow also covers much of the north. The warnings are in place from Thursday afternoon until Friday morning.

The Met Office has issued a new amber weather warning for snow and ice for parts of Wales and England for Saturday and Sunday. The forecaster predicts snow and freezing rain will likely lead to disruption to transport and other services.

The icy weather is set to continue in Blackburn with Darwen after the Met Office issued yet another warning. Yellow warnings have been in place in the borough and across East Lancashire the last two nights for ice.

Three Met Office weather warnings were in place, with more for snow beginning over the weekend as huge parts of the country braces for the white stuff.
