Incumbent Ed Gainey and challenger Corey O'Connor were on the ballot in Pittsburgh's Democratic primary for mayor.

Ed Gainey, who was elected to be Pittsburgh’s first Black mayor nearly four years ago, will face Corey O’Connor, the Allegheny County Controller and well-funded son of a beloved former mayor. The primary will probably decide the general election as well, since Pittsburgh has not elected a Republican mayor in nearly a century.

Challenger Corey O’Connor ousted Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey in Tuesday’s Democratic primary election, beating an incumbent in a race that hinged on how Gainey was handling city finances, affordable housing and public safety.
