The US government’s primary foreign aid organization is losing the vast majority of its staff, forcing the agency’s lifesaving work to screech to a halt.

The Trump administration plans to drastically reduce the staff of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), cutting down to fewer than 300 employees from the current 8,000. This reduction is part of efforts to potentially shut down USAID or integrate it under the State Department.

Young staffers from Musk’s government-efficiency initiative gained access to sensitive information to cap a weeklong effort that puts the aid agency’s fate in question.
