The first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections is underway today, with voting taking place in 43 constituencies.

Jharkhand Assembly elections begin November 13 with 26 million voters deciding the fate of 683 candidates across 81 seats. Results to be announced on November 23.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for polling, which will begin at 7 am and continue until 5 pm. Polling will end at 4 pm at 950 sensitive booths spread across 31 constituencies

As far as key seats are concerned- former CM Champai Soren, contesting on the BJP ticket in Seraikela, faces a challenge from JMM’s Ganesh Mahli. BJP’s Geeta Koda, wife of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda locked horns with Congress’ Sona Ram Sinku in Jagannathpur.

The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has fielded 23 candidates for this phase of Jharkhand elections, with allies Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are contesting on 17 and five seats respectively.
