Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife Penny Knight have pledged to donate $2 billion to Oregon Health & Science University’s Knight Cancer Institute, the school announced Thursday, describing it as the largest single gift to a U.

Oregon Health & Science University said the couple’s donation would be the largest single gift to a higher-learning institution in the United States.

During that time, Oregon's athletics programs have experienced significant growth thanks to Knight and a partnership with Nike, with none rising to national prominence more than the football team.
