At the 89th Academy Awards, the film received eight nominations including Best Picture, Best Director for Jenkins and Best Supporting Actress for Harris. It went on to win Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Ali, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Ali received critical acclaim and won Academy Awards and SAG Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Moonlight (2016) and Green Book (2018), as well as a BAFTA and Golden Globe Award for the latter.
